Prosthetics
Every Prosthetic service we provide at our clinic is guided by our philosophy. From kids to grandparents, whether you are a new amputee, using your prosthesis for sport, farming, caring for your family, or basic transfers, we will work closely with you to develop an assistive device specific to you. This includes artificial legs and arms for people who have had amputations due to conditions such as cancer, diabetes, or injury.
Lower Limb Prosthetics
Below Knee prosthetics
Below knee amputation is when the limb is severed below the knee and the preservation of the natural knee joint. Knowing your options in socket technology, liners and componentry is key and that is where your prosthetist can help you decide.
When your residual limb is sufficiently healed, you will be measured and fit with the prosthesis. The prosthesis you take home will be custom-made, the materials and components used are tailored to your needs. Your prosthetist will teach you how to put on and care for your prosthesis and supplies.
As the residual limb changes, it is important to follow up with your prosthetist at least every six months to address any issues, especially as your residual limb is changing in size and volume.
Above knee prosthetics
Above knee amputation is when the limb is severed above the knee and the preservation of the natural hip joint. The hip joint is naturally a joint that allows multiple degrees of freedom and the presence of a mechanical knee joint can affect your balance.
Multiple options exist in terms of socket design, technology, materials, and componentry to help you achieve your goals.
As the residual limb changes, it is important to follow up with your prosthetist at least every six months to address any issues, especially as your residual limb is changing in size and volume.
Upper Limb Prosthetics
The two most common causes of upper extremity amputations are trauma or disease. It has been found that 75% of the upper extremity amputations in adults are caused due to some kind of trauma such as motor vehicle accident, machinery accident, gunshot wound or electrical burns.
Our specialized upper extremity prosthetists have an in-depth understanding of an upper extremity amputee’s unique needs. Having extensive exposure working with a variety of upper extremity amputation levels along with the techniques and technology which help make upper extremity prosthetic users successful, our practitioners provide unparalleled patient experiences and outcomes.
The human arm and hand are complex structures, for each amputation level we often recommend multiple terminal devices or multiple prosthetic devices to meet the individual’s needs. We recommend that each individual chooses the best tool for the job or activity in which they are involved, in order to have the best possible outcomes.
We provide several prosthetic options for upper extremity amputation levels.
Different types of upper limb prosthetics we provide at Tannouri orthopedics are the following:
- Myoelectric upper extremity prosthetic powered by battery system.
- Passive functional or cosmetic upper extremity prosthetic device.
- Finger and partial-hand high definition silicone prosthesis.
- Adaptive or recreational upper extremity device.
- Body powered or conventional upper extremity prosthetic device is operated by a harness system.
